Holiday Ads for Shops in St. John's

Tyler York  ·  Jellybean Row Marketing  ·  November 6, 2026

November is when a shop in St. John's decides what to spend on ads before Christmas. The useful weeks are short. Black Friday is Friday, November 27 this year. Christmas Day is Friday, December 25, and Boxing Day is Saturday, December 26. People look for gifts and winter clothes they can pick up in town. A Google ad meets a search already in progress. A Facebook or Instagram ad shows the shop to someone in St. John's, Mount Pearl, Paradise, or Conception Bay South who is scrolling. You choose the amount. Spend it on the weeks you are open and stocked.

Jellybean Row Marketing Inc. is in St. John's. We manage Facebook, Instagram, and Google ads for small businesses in Mount Pearl, Paradise, Conception Bay South, and across Newfoundland and Labrador. The same controls apply on Water Street, at the Avalon Mall, and in Paradise. Name the towns you can serve, and the day the ads stop.

Name the weeks, then cap the spend

A holiday campaign needs a last day. On Google, a campaign total budget is the amount for one campaign with a start date and an end date. Google's budgets overview says you will not pay more than that amount. It fits a weekend sale or a push that ends on Boxing Day. An average daily budget works differently. For most campaigns, one day can be billed up to twice the average, and a month is capped at 30.4 times the average daily budget. With no end date, that daily amount can still spend in January.

On Facebook and Instagram, a lifetime budget is the total for the whole run. Meta calls it a hard cap. A daily budget is a weekly average. About daily budgets says a day, measured to midnight, will not go over 175 percent of the daily budget, and a week ending Saturday will not go over seven times it. If the offer has an end date, use the lifetime budget. The ad money goes to Google or Meta. Management is a separate fee, on our paid ads page.

Reach people who can get to the door

A search for gifts in St. John's or winter boots in Mount Pearl may be from someone who will visit, or from someone far from Newfoundland who only typed the place. Google's default, Presence or Interest, includes both. About advanced location options says it reaches people likely to be in or regularly in your places, plus people who showed interest in a search, a recent visit, or a page they viewed. Presence keeps the ads for people likely to be located, or regularly located, where you chose. Google says most campaigns get fewer impressions if you leave the default, and that location is a best effort, not a guarantee.

Use Presence, and only the towns you can serve. A Mount Pearl shop might add St. John's. A Paradise shop might add Conception Bay South if those customers already come in. When you type the city, add Canada. Google's location setup guide says to include the country so you do not target another city with the same name. Put the town in the ad. Google's note on clicks from outside your locations says to consider naming the place in the text.

Send the click to the item or the sale, on a phone-friendly page with the address and the holiday hours. Closed on Christmas Day and open on Boxing Day should read the same in the ad, on the site, and on your Google listing. The listing is covered in our local SEO note. The auction that chooses which ad shows is covered in our restaurant ads note.

Show the shop to people who are scrolling

Facebook and Instagram can show the counter, what came in this week, and the town, to people who were not searching. In Ads Manager you enter cities. About location selection says Meta's signals change and a perfect match is not guaranteed, so an impression, a message, or a lead can come from outside the places you picked.

You can set the hours too. Meta's scheduling help says an ad set can run on a chosen day and time with a lifetime or daily budget. The block has to last at least one hour, and it runs in the viewer's time zone. Use the hours the door is open, or the evening before a Saturday. One offer is enough. When the coat in the photo sells through, change the photo.

Check the ad when the week changes

Before you add money, check the towns, the end date, and the page the ad opens. A price, a product, or the words “open Boxing Day” have to be true that day. Pause when you sell through, or when you will not be there to hand someone a bag. Posts for people who already follow you are in our social media notes. The ad budget is what you pay the platform.
